2 John

“If anyone comes to your meeting and does not teach the truth about Christ, don’t invite that person into your home or give any kind of encouragement. Anyone who encourages such people becomes a partner in their evil work.”

‭‭2 John‬ ‭1:10-11‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Let’s take a look at this. I can see where this can be interpreted wrong and damage done.  Most of us have encountered people of other religions whether at work or knocking on your door. Do we slam the door on them or wish them a horrible day? The verse could almost support that.

When it’s says, “don’t invite in your home“ it’s referring to allowing them to stay in your home as a home base for whatever their religion is. I won’t support that, but I have invited people in my presence and then discussed the gospel with them.  I am respectful and show courtesy, but I don’t support them with encouragement or prayers of success or money. I don’t want to be a part of anything that does not preach Jesus Christ and the cross, but we should not be rude or disrespectful.  Let 2 Timothy 24-25 be your guide: “A servant of the Lord must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone, be able to teach, and be patient with difficult people. Gently instruct those who oppose the truth. Perhaps God will change those people’s hearts, and they will learn the truth.”
